More songs from the last year in Northwest music.
Okay, let’s keep this going, shall we? Also, I’ll just come right out and say it – Portland and Vancouver are noticeably absent from my picks. I’m not sure how that happened, but I promise I’ll try to occasionally get Seatown out of my headphones next year, deal?
(P.S. – I hope you guys aren’t reading too much into the lyrics, I don’t really want to go whale watching with internet strangers)
I Don’t Wanna Live In The City No More – Whalebones: They just want everyone to see the mountaintops. I get the same sentiment too sometimes when sirens, drunk people, and the KOMO helicopter have brought me to my last nerve.
Wait For Me – Motopony: Dedicate this to a lady friend and you will be golden from now through Valentine’s Day. At least.
An Echo From The Hosts That Profess Infinitum – Shabazz Palaces: Hypnotizing is the best way I can think to describe this song.
Helplessness Blues – Fleet Foxes: I swear, just the opening notes to this one made it feel like the heavens were parting to spill sweet, sweet sunshine on me after yet another play of “Party Rock Anthem” on my work’s music station. Thank you, Robin Pecknold.
Lemonade – Fly Moon Royalty: Sell it for $1.50, guaranteed to put a little cash in hand!
*DISCLAIMER GEARED TO MUSIC NERDS FOR THE FOLLOWING TWO SONGS: Yes, I know these were technically 2010 releases, but we all know they didn’t really “catch on” till this year, so I’m going to cheat and add them in too.
Whale Song – Lemolo: I wanna repeat this song over and over, ferry bound somewhere.
Lost In My Mind – The Head and The Heart: All together now…HOW’S THAT BRICK LAYING COMING, HOW’S YOUR ENGINE RUNNNING, IS THAT BRIDGE GETTING BUILT, ARE YOUR HANDS GETTING FILLED!
There was A LOT to choose from this year. Feel free to share your picks here!
